Resident Named President of Hartford Symphony Orchestra

Carrie Hammond began new position Tuesday.

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors has hired Carrie Hammond as President & CEO. She began her position on Tuesday, May 29.

Having served as Interim CEO of the Hartford Symphony from May-October 2011, Hammond played a central role in the launch of Carolyn Kuan’s first season as Music Director and CityMusic, the HSO’s afterschool music program in collaboration with Hartford Public Schools. Hammond says, “It is an honor and joy to work for the Hartford Symphony, collaborating with Carolyn Kuan to realize her artistic vision and expanding our community reach and relevancy.  Over the past year, this orchestra has experienced revolutionary artistic growth and our community impact continues to surpass expectations. I look forward to working with our talented musicians, administrative staff, and Board of Directors to further the Hartford Symphony’s legacy as a cornerstone of the arts in Hartford.”

Hammond succeeds Andrea Stalf, who served as Hartford Symphony President & CEO from November 2011-May 2012. Stalf leaves the HSO to return to her career in corporate marketing and advertising.

Carrie Hammond has spent the majority of her 25-year business career working in a variety of management, marketing and strategy positions at The Travelers and United Technologies. Hammond has volunteered on growth and development initiatives for the HSO since 1987 when she first moved to Hartford.

Hammond has an MBA from Harvard University with concentrations in Service Management and Social Enterprise, and a B.A. from Wellesley College with majors in Economics and Music.  She is an officer and 18-year member of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus (resident chorus for the Boston Symphony), and also sings with the Boston based Copley Singers.  She lives in Farmington, CT with her husband, Jonathan Hammond, a cardiothoracic surgeon at Hartford Hospital, and their two children.
