[UPDATE] School Board Does Not Have Calendar on Tuesday's Agenda
Board chairman says future calendars were never on the agenda for the Aug. 28 meeting and will likely be discussed around November.
UPDATE: School board Chairman Mary Grace Reed said incorrect information was provided to Patch about a discussion of the school calendar — specifically whether future school years would start before or after Labor Day. That discussion will not take place at Tuesday night's board meeting.
"There was never an intention, nor is it on the agenda to discuss the school calendar at tomorrow evening's Board meeting. The meeting was rescheduled as a Special Meeting for the purpose of having the Board of Education meet prior to the start of school year should there be any issues that the Superintendent felt required review or discussion," Reed told Patch on Monday evening.
She continued: "The Farmington Board has a strong and consistent procedure related to the school calendar: absolutely nothing is changed without discussion and input from our parents and community on potential changes. The school calendar has never or will it ever be modified without allowing for that input from parents."

Reed said she was concerned that parents will feel they were not given an opportunity to provide their opinions about the calendar, and she wanted residents to know that it was never on the agenda for this meeting.
Calendars for future years will "most likely come to the board some time around November," Reed said. The entire school community will be given notice well in advance, she said.

The Farmington School Board will meet Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in the Farmington High School library.
The meeting was originally scheduled for September, but was moved up to discuss a change to future school calendars that would move the start of school to before Labor Day, board member Jon Landry told Patch in an email.
The public may comment on that and other issues at the start of the meeting.
