Siting Council Rejects Farmington Training Tower

A preliminary vote was held on Thursday and the Siting Council rejected the proposal to build a training tower in Farmington, reports the Hartford Courant.
The council’s preliminary vote will give its staff direction for drafting a final decision, which is expected on June 11.
The town and residents have been fighting Tower Holdings, LLC’s proposal for a 180-foot lattice tower that would be built on its property at 199 Brickyard Road.

Area residents are opposed to the building of a lattice tower in an area of homes, schools, and recreational facilities for the enjoyment of all the town’s residents.
Many residents living within the area stated in public hearings that there was no need for a telecommunications tower in the area.

Both the town and Farmington residents have strongly opposed the tower’s location and questioned its true intent. Both residents and town officials spoke out against the tower at the hearings and some even staged a protest before the Siting Council meeting.
