Varsity Softball vs. Taft: W 3-2

Recap: TEAMWORK is what it took for the Porter's Varsity Softball team to beat the always strong team of Taft School. While Taft was first to get a runner on base it was Porter's that scored first when lead-off hitter Jenna Hall '20 hit a single, followed by Gaelen Carroll '18 hitting a single, and then Hannah Zukowski '17 also hitting a single that scored Hall.

Taft answered in the top of the second scoring two runs to take the lead.

The Porter's outfield saw a lot of action and gave the crowd something to cheer about when in the top of the third inning Taft got a runner on base to start the inning. The next batter hit the ball hard to left center field, center fielder Juliana Diamantis '20 tracked down the ball but it tipped off of her glove to be caught by left fielder Lucinda DeLaney '20. While that was an amazing play it was not over yet, the ball is then thrown in to Hall at short stop to tag the runner who failed to tag from first. The final out of the inning also came from the outfield as Natalie Brennan '20 made a great running catch to end the top of the inning.

The Taft defense retired the Porter's offense in order 1 - 2 - 3 for four innings in a row...but then...more teamwork! The top of the sixth inning was started with Diamantis getting on base with a single, followed by Carroll also getting on base with a single moving Diamantis to second. Zukowski lines the ball down the right field line which allows Diamantis to score and puts Carroll at third and tie the game. Jessica Sardilli '19 hits a solid single to score Carroll before the bottom the sixth comes to an end with Porter's reclaiming the lead.

Porter's defense fights hard retiring the first Taft batter. Their second batter of the inning reaches on a single but is retired when she is forced out at 2nd. Two outs, runner on first base. The next Taft hitter hit a hard line drive to the lower leg of the pitcher, Sardilli is unable to get out of the way, is hit by the ball and it is redirected and sneaks past Morgan Pickett '20 at second. Runners are at first and third, two outs and Taft has their #4 hitter at the plate. After taking some time to walk off the hit to her leg Sardilli delivers one pitch that is hit hard and deep to center field, right into the glove of Diamantis for the third out and for the Porter's W.

Varsity Softball vs. Suffield: L 2-6

Recap: Porter's Gaelen Carroll '18 was able to get on base with a single right at the start of the game, however, the well-placed pitching from Suffield and their solid defense did not allow Porter's to score until the top of the 4th inning. That run was a solo home run hit off of the bat of Hannah Zukowski '17. At this point, Porter's found themselves down by one run, but after several hard hits by the Suffield offense Porter's found themselves down by 4 by the end of the 4th inning.

Porter's continued to battle, getting their next run in the top of the 6th inning. Jenna Hall '20 started the rally with a single followed by Carroll getting on base for the second time in the game. With runners in scoring position, Zukowski was walked to load the bases. Maya Silva-Thompson '17 hit the ball hard which allowed Hall to score. Suffield was able to get out of the inning with only one Porter's run scoring. Porter's was unable to score in the top of the 7th, ending the score with a 2 - 6 loss.
