Varsity Softball vs. Westover: W 14-4

Recap: On what was by far the hottest day of the season, it was also Senior day, and the final game of the 2017 Varsity Softball season. While both teams managed to get runners in scoring position in the first inning, neither team was able to score a run, the same was true for the second inning. In the top of the third Westover hit the ball hard and was able to score two runs to take the lead, but that would not last for long as after Senior Hannah Zukowski led with a single followed by Senior Maya Silva-Thompson who hit the ball hard to secure a triple and then scored on the same play with head-up base running. Porter's was not done there, with a tie game going into the bottom of the fourth inning, Jenna Hall '20 started the ball rolling with a triple, Zukowski drew a walk and Silva Thompson hit to the right to allow Zukowski to advance to third and Hall to score. Jessica Sardilli '18 added a well-placed single to allow Zukowski to score followed by Lucinda DeLaney '20 hitting a solid line drive for a single. Porter's took the lead, 4 - 2. Four runs were put into the book in the bottom of the fifth starting with Juliana Diamantis '20 and Hall scoring on a mishandled ball hit off of the bat of Zukowski. Gaelen Carroll '18 and Zukowski both scored as teammates put the ball into play. Westover did not go down without a fight, posting two more runs in the top of the sixth inning, but in the bottom of the same inning, Porter's sealed the game with 6 more runs crossing the plate, highlighted by Zukowski hitting a triple and Silva-Thompson securing her second hit of the game. For the final time, the battery of Sardilli and Zukowski, kept the Westover offense on their toes, striking out 8 in the win.Porter's has posted their best season 10 - 5 over the past several years. They finish in 6th position in the conference, just out of contention for play-offs (only the top 4 team are given a spot in the play-offs). With several freshmen on the team and new players coming on to the team next year, Porter's will look to improve their standing next year with the drive to see post-season play.
