The Adoption Alternative to the Safe Haven Law

With the recent influx of infants being abandoned at hospitals, adoption professionals want to educate women about their options.

(Glastonbury, CT): Adoptions From The Heart (AFTH), is making plans to educate hospitals and the local community about the adoption options for pregnant women in light of the recent infant abandonments at hospitals under the Safe Haven Law. Safe Haven laws are meant to prevent babies from being abandoned in dangerous locations like dumpsters or public bathrooms, which has happened in the past.

Adoption is an option if neither parent feels he or she will be able to meet the child’s needs emotionally, physically, financially, or socially. Pregnant women and new mothers can call the Glastonbury AFTH office, (860) 657-2626, and speak with an adoption counselor about the step by step process and to create their adoption plan if they believe they are not ready to parent their baby. Adoptions From The Heart can offer counseling services both before and after the baby is born. The trained and experienced social workers understand that this is a difficult decision and want to help women work through their emotions as well.

AFTH gives women the option to select prospective adoptive parents from AFTH’s approved families through letters, photos and videos. They can meet them and stay in touch with their child as he/she is growing up by choosing either a totally open, semi-open adoption or a traditional (closed) adoption. They can join a support group with other women who are considering adoption and/or have already placed their children for adoption.
