EAST HARTFORD, CT – May 26, 2016 – The results are in! American Eagle Financial Credit Union has announced the three highest vote getters out of the seventeen local high schools that were pre-selected and recommended to receive a monetary grant for their project graduations. Over 15,000 votes were tallied, following a very successful, online social media campaign. Winners were awarded a monetary grant based on the total number of votes received in an online poll among AEFCU members and non-members. Votes were cast from April 25th through May 8th on the AEFCU Facebook page.

The top three vote getters were announced on Monday, May 9th. The winners were: Enfield High School in first place, receiving $1,500 with 4,054 votes, Manchester High School in second place, receiving $1,000 with 3,354 votes, and Newington High School in third place, receiving $500 with 1,402 votes. The 14 remaining high schools will each be given $200 and all of the awards are subject to final approval by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving.

“The Credit Union is pleased to award these grants as our way of congratulating the Class of 2016 on their academic achievements. The use of social media to create awareness and participation of the program was central to its success,” said Dean Marchessault, President & CEO of American Eagle FCU. “The Project Graduation campaign also complimented the financial literacy classes conducted by our staff at several of the participating high schools during the year,” added Marchessault.
