Mechanical Issues Temporarily Keeping Historic CT River Ferry On The Dock

GLASTONBURY, CT — The historic Glastonbury-to-Rocky Hill Ferry will be closed until Friday for mechanical reasons, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The ferry on the Connecticut River is the nation's oldest continuously operating ferry service, dating to 1655. It traditionally operates from April 1 through November.

The ferry uses the three-car barge Hollister III, which is pushed across the river by the diesel tug Cumberland.

Service generally operates weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. and weekends from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., though operations remain subject to weather, river conditions and mechanical issues.
