Bates College, Lewiston ME

  • Maxwell Hummel of Glastonbury has received 2018-19 NESCAC Winter All-Academic honors. Hummel, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Hummel of Glastonbury, is a 2015 graduate of Glastonbury High School. He is majoring in economics and minoring in Chinese at Bates. Hummel, a member of the men's basketball team, is one of 48 students from Bates College's winter sports teams who received the honor from the New England Small College Athletic Conference. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 (raised from 3.40 a year ago).

  • Southern Connecticut State University freshman Bella Lanata of Glastonbury was named the ECAC Gymnastics Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference on Wednesday, Mar. 20 Lanata had an outstanding event when the Owls hosted Bridgeport on Saturday, Mar. 16. Against the Purple Knights, Lanata posted season- and career-bests on the vault with a 9.675 and the floor with a 9.7000. Lanata's 9.675 was the fifth-highest score on the vault for the Owls this season while her season average increased to 9.413 in the vent. In the floor exercise, Lanata matched her score from the Owls meet at Maryland, and was also the fifth-highest score of the year for the team in the event. Lanata checks-in with a 9.596 average in the event, good for fourth on the Owls' roster.
