Charlie Monaco Sportsmanship Award Winners

Two teams were awarded Outstanding Sportsmanship trophies at the 25th Anniversary Glastonbury Hartwell Soccer Club Tournament

Two special awards were presented in honor of Charlie Monaco at the 25th Anniversary of the Glastonbury Hartwell Soccer Club Spring Warm-Up Tournament last weekend. The two teams that were selected out of 210 teams overall demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and played with respect for the rules of the game and their opponents.

Glastonbury Hartwell Soccer Club was founded in 1973 by Charlie Monaco and was named for Verie “Bud” Hartwell who was the Glastonbury High School coach for many years. Bud was Charlie and Dave Monaco’s coach. Soccer board meetings were held in Charlie Monaco’s family room and Charlie was president, coach and a licensed referee.

We were very fortunate to have the Monaco family present including Charlie’s wife, Doris, to present the award to one team in honor of her late husband. The awards were given to the Glastonbury Girls U9 Blizzard and CFC Valley 05 Sky Girls teams.
