Chemical Reaction Causes Temporary Evacuation of Glastonbury HS

Students and staff were allowed back into the building after getting the all-clear from emergency crews.

Glastonbury High School was evacuated for about 20 minutes on Friday after some chemicals started smoldering during a science class.

Glastonbury School Superintendent Dr. Alan Bookman told NBC Connecticut the incident occurred after students cleaned up chemicals with a paper towel that began to smolder after it was tossed into a trash can.

The fire department and the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection responded and students were evacuated as a precaution.
