Gaynor 'Gay' Dashner, 99; Glastonbury Resident Who Enjoyed Her Grandchildren

Gaynor Phyllis (Malko) Dashner, 99 years and 8 months, of Glastonbury, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2014 at Glastonbury Health Care.
She was born, Feb. 19, 1915, in Springfield, VT, a daughter of the late Vincent and Josephine Szuszkiewicz Malko, and the sister of the late Victoria Malko Neetz.

She was a 1933 graduate of Springfield (VT) High School and Bay Path Institute, Class of 1935. Gay won numerous typing and shorthand awards while in school. As a young woman, she was employed at Atlantic Screw Co. in Hartford, International Silver Co. in Meriden, and Cincinnati Insurance Co.
She married another Bay Path graduate, Kenneth Dashner, in 1940 and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 24, 1990 with family and friends. Ken passed away on Sept. 27, 1996. Gay loved babies and thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and babysitting through the years. She enjoyed doing needlework and created many beautiful pieces before vision issues developed. She also enjoyed listening to music, especially Tony Bennett and the “Polish Prince” Bobby Vinton.

Gay is survived by her son Robert Dashner and his wife Kay of Livermore, CA, daughters Judy Laczek and her husband John of Cromwell, and Jayne Gillon and her husband Dave of Glastonbury; grandchildren Katie Dashner of San Francisco, CA and Scott Dashner of Sunnyvale, CA, Michael Gillon and his wife Marilyn of Durham, and Christopher Gillon and his wife Millie of New York, NY. Gay also is survived by two great-granddaughters, Lisbeth Rose Gillon and Claire Victoria Gillon, and by brother-in-law Roger Neetz of Vero Beach, FL.
Gay’s family thanks the caring staff and Gay’s roommate Doris Angelo at Glastonbury Health Care Center where Gay resided the past six years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, in St. Paul Church, 2577 Main St., Glastonbury. Internment will immediately follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Glastonbury. Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury.
