Glastonbury Athlete Named Top Gymnast of the Week
The Glastonbury resident was named National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Women's Gymnastics East Region All-Around Gymnast of the Week.
Glastonbury’s Amanda Scanlon, a sophomore at SUNY Cortland, has been chosen as the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) Women’s Gymnastics East Region All-Around Gymnast of the Week for the week ending Feb. 8.
In her first collegiate all-around, Scanlon posted a score of 38.00 during Cortland’s 189.225-187.525 dual victory over Division II Southern Connecticut State. The meet was held as part of Cortland’s inaugural “Beauty and the Beast” combined gymnastics/wrestling event.
The lone all-around competitor at the meet, Scanlon finished second on balance beam (9.65), fourth on floor exercise (9.625) and fifth on vault (9.525) while helping the Red Dragons post the fourth-highest team score in school history.

Scanlon has scored at least a 9.55 on balance beam in all five of Cortland’s meets this winter. Her seasonal average score (SAS) on beam of 9.6688 (based on her top four scores) ranks second nationally in Division III.
Cortland will compete at Division I Air Force Academy on Saturday, Feb. 14, at 6 p.m. (MT).
