PLAYER SELECTION AND PLACEMENT ON TEAMS
During the try-outs, we will use professional soccer evaluators from inside and outside our club, who have no conflict of interest with players to supply impartial player skill assessments, and to recommend placement of players on teams. The selection process will include the try-out, the current travel (or rec) coach’s evaluation, as well as assessments done by the professional trainers assigned to spring travel teams to help assess the player’s abilities, potential, commitment, and conduct.
Players will be notified via email of the tryout results. Please be sure to verify the e-mail address provided during registration as this will be the only means of communicating team selections. Players will be asked to formally accept the position on a team within 48 hours of the notification. U9-U14/15 players will start to be notified by June 12th.
As players accept positions on a team, the rosters will be posted on the website. Teams are set up to comply with the various levels of competition established by CJSA. At the U9, U10, (7 v 7) and U11, U12 (9 v 9), the goal is to form three teams for each age/gender group. At the U13 and U14/U15 (11 v 11), the goal is to form two teams for each age/gender group.
These are only guidelines and circumstances unique to an age/gender group could modify the team placements from year to year.
TIME COMMITMENT
Players commit to both a fall (late-August to early-November) and a Spring (Early-April to Mid-June) season. Teams practice two days per week for 1 ½ hours each and typically compete in two games per weekend. Games are held either in Glastonbury or in neighboring towns such as West Hartford, Enfield, Middletown, Avon, and Burlington. In addition to our own club’s Spring Warm-up Tournament, many teams will also compete in one or two additional in/out-of-state tournaments. Finally, many teams will also play indoor soccer over the winter months, although this play is optional and not part of the Glastonbury Hartwell Soccer Travel Program.
