Glastonbury Profiles: GHS Boys Lacrosse

The first lacrosse game of the season is at home Saturday!

As the Glastonbury High School Boys Lacrosse Team ran drills on the GHS turf field, Head Coach Mark Landers took time out of his schedule to sit down and talk to Glastonbury Patch about this season’s team.

“These guys really take a lot of pride in playing for their town and playing for their high school,” Landers said.

This is Landers’ fourth year coaching the successful team, who were CCC West Champions in 2010 and 2011. The 2013 team sees all but starter returning, but the team remains young with just six seniors.

Captains for the 2013 team were chosen Thursday:

  • Jon Kaplan, senior
  • Mason Grande, senior
  • Matt Parmelee, senior
  • Ryan Babiak, junior

This year the team is focusing on defense, Landers said. And this year’s team could prove to be defensively strong.

“Our defense could be one of the better defenses we’ve ever seen at this school,” Landers said.

Unfortunately, several players will miss early parts of the season due to injury, including Parmelee, who is out with a broken thumb.

But that’s not stopping this year’s team.

“We go one day at a time,” Landers said. “From drill to drill, from second to second. We want to be playing our best lacrosse.”
