'Invasive Plant' Warning Issued for Section of Connecticut River

A warning was sent out for part of the Connecticut River this week.

GLASTONBURY, CT — State environmental officials have issued an "invasive species alert" for a section of the Connecticut River.

According to state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection officials, Hydrilla was recently found in the main stem of the Connecticut River in Glastonbury, near Riverfront Park and the boathouse.

Hydrilla, a very highly invasive aquatic plant, DEEP officials said.

In order to thwart the spread of the plant to other bodies of water, river users should clean their boats, canoes, kayaks, rowing sculls trailers and fishing equipment thoroughly before leaving the boat launch, or leaving the waterfront, DEEP officials said.
