John W. Bauer, 93; Retired Glastonbury High School Teacher

John W. Bauer, 93, of Glastonbury, beloved husband of Elsie (Sargavy) Bauer, died Monday July 27, 2015 at the Glastonbury Health Care Center.
Born April 20, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late John S. and Elfrida (Weisenberger) Bauer, he had lived in Glastonbury since 1955.

He left his position at Pratt & Whitney as a tool and die maker after receiving a degree in Industrial Arts Education from CCSU . He taught metal working and architectural drafting at Glastonbury High School until his retirement in 1987.
John was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps, the CT Association of Retired Teachers, the AARP #2010 and the Friendship Force. One of John’s proudest accomplishments teaching was when he and his students built a scale model train including a real steam locomotive, cars and caboose which is presently mounted in the library at Glastonbury High School.

He was a US Navy veteran of WW II.
John and his wife Elsie traveled extensively throughout the world reaching all continents except Antarctica. They also camped throughout the U.S. and Canada. John loved tending his garden, attending ceramics classes and camping out West. His greatest love was his family.
Besides his wife he is survived by two daughters and their families; Janet and Howell Craven of West Hartford and their sons Jeremy Craven of CA, and Jeffrey Craven of West Hartford, Lynne and Michael Campbell of Glastonbury and their son Christopher Campbell and his wife Kia Roux of CA and Megan Campbell of Glastonbury. He is also survived by a brother Arthur Bauer of Ohio and a sister Arleen Curtis of Nebraska.
A memorial service will be celebrated on Tuesday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. in the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury. Friends may call at the Mulryan Funeral Home, 725 Hebron Ave., Glastonbury on Monday, Aug. 3 from 2 to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Church of Christ, Congregational, Memorial Fund, 2183 Main St., Glastonbury, CT 06033 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
