Adoptive parents, birth parents and adoptees (adoption triad) kicked off the 2019 summer season with a family reunion picnic hosted by 501 C-3 nonprofit Adoptions From The Heart(AFTH). The nonprofit is licensed to facilitate domestic infant adoptions in Connecticut, along with other states up and down the east coast. Each year the Connecticut office location holds a picnic for family members of an adoption triad to hangout, reminisce and catch up. the annual picnic is not only fun, but it falls in line with fostering an open adoption relationship.

This year the family picnic was held at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport, CT. This year's picnic did not fall short of a success according to AFTH CT District Supervisor Susan Myers, MSW.

"It was a picture-perfect day for the CT Picnic at the Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport on June 23rd. Almost 70 people came out to enjoy reconnecting and relaxing while seeing the animal exhibits and giving kids space to run and play. We had 7 adoptive families visiting with their children’s birth parents and siblings, and several families had multi-generational, large groups present," said Susan Myers, MSW.

Adoptions From The Heart (AFTH) is a 501 C-3 nonprofit that was founded fellow adoptee and agency President Maxine Chalker, MSW/LSW . The AFTH president was born during an era where communication amongst the adoption triad (adoptive parents, birth parents & adoptees) was not encouraged nor practiced. Determined to see a change in adoption, Maxine established the first "open" adoption agency in 1985 in Wynnewood, PA (outside Philadelphia). The nonprofit opened the AFTH Glastonbury, CT office in 2008. As of June 2019 the Connecticut relocated to the neighboring town of Bloomfield.
