Route 3 Full Directional Weekend Closures Scheduled on the William H. Putnam Bridge in Glastonbury
Detours will be in place for the series of weekend closures that will begin this weekend and continue into August.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation has planned a series of full directional weekend closures of the William H. Putnam Bridge — Route 3 over the Connecticut River between Glastonbury and Wethersfield.
And it all begins this weekend.
The first scheduled directional closure is set for Route 3 southbound (driving from Glastonbury into Wethersfield) for the weekend of June 19 to June 22, weather permitting. Motorists will be directed to I-91 via Route 2 westbound and Route 15 southbound to the Charter Oak Bridge.

The scheduled closures are required for the final milling and paving of the bridge as part of the ongoing $35 million bridge rehabilitation project.
The schedule may change based on weather or unforeseen circumstances:

- 6/19 – 6/22: southbound closure (Glastonbury heading to Wethersfield)
- 7/10 – 7/13: northbound closure (Wethersfield heading to Glastonbury)
- 7/17 – 7/20: southbound closure
- 7/24 – 7/27: southbound or northbound closure
- 7/31 – 8/03: southbound or northbound closure
Closures will begin at 8 p.m. on Fridays, and will remain in effect until 5 a.m. on Mondays.
The southbound side of the bridge will be closed to traffic between the Main Street exit in Glastonbury and I-91 in Wethersfield.
Signs and police officers will be stationed at key intersections to guide motorists.
