WEATHER UPDATE: Heavy Snow, Ice Hitting Glastonbury Today

The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

In a storm that already dumped several inches of snow on the area overnight, the heavy snow is expected to pick up to a rate of one to three inches an hour Monday afternoon.

The heavy snow also could be mixed with sleet.

The National Weather Service says an additional 5 to 9 inches of snow is expected by the time the storm winds down. A total of 10 to 14 inches are expected from the storm.

North winds up to 10 mph with gusts of 21 mph also are forecast, driving wind chills to below zero.

The snow should start winding down by 10 p.m.

• This Afternoon: Snow and sleet, becoming all snow after 4pm. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 23. North wind 8 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 5 to 9 inches possible.
• Tonight: A chance of snow, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 2. Wind chill values as low as -9. Northwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
• Tuesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 22. Wind chill values as low as -11. Northwest wind 5 to 8 mph becoming west in the afternoon.
• Tuesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 12. South wind 3 to 5 mph.
• Wednesday: A slight chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Southwest wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
• Wednesday Night: A chance of snow showers, mainly after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Thursday: A chance of snow showers before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 26. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
• Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 0.
