Yoga for Back Care w/ Nancy Adler

Saturday Oct. 4th 3-5pm

It is often said that “man was meant to walk upright,” but in truth our spine is actually quite well adapted for many different functions. In this workhsop we will learn about the different movement of the spine and the muscles that work to support and protect it. Through a compbination of mini-lecture and asana practice, we will discover how to use yoga to strengthen, release, and utilize the spine safely and in a stable fashion. We will focus most of our effort on the four movements of the spine, flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation, and incorporate postures that address each movement. Additionally, we will look at and utilize in our practice the muscles that when used correctly can both stabilize and protect he spine both on and off the mat.
Emphasis on both strength and stability will be integrated in both active and restorative yoga asanas along with a few “do at home” practices to help ease that occasional achy low back.
