In 2000, a 4-year-old cancer patient named Alexandra “Alex” Scott, whose parents were both from Windsor, announced a seemingly simple idea: open a lemonade stand to raise money to help her doctors at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center find a cure for children with cancer. For the next four years, Alex held an annual lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer research. On August 1, 2004, Alex died peacefully at the age of 8 – she had raised over $1 million for childhood cancer research in her short lifetime.
“We are extremely excited,” said owner of the Union Street Tavern, Samir Doshi, “to sponsor this event. We can raise money for a great cause and also have fun doing it!”
