A Banner Week at East Granby High
Parents, school administers and a local business teamed up to have banners of all the schools in the NCCC hung in the gymnasium.
The gymnasium at East Granby High School just got a little more colorful this week with the hanging of banners with names (and the colors) of all the schools in the North Central Connecticut Conference.
The gym is a fitting location for the banners, as it took the team effort by parents, administrators and a local business to get the project off the ground.
East Granby High parent Joe Arsenault first came up with the idea before the end of the last school year, when he noticed that other high school gymnasiums in the conference all had banners of the conference’s schools. So Arsenault approached East Granby High principal Melissa Bavaro and Athletic Director Bob Paskiewicz about the possibility of purchasing the banners and having them hung in the gym.
They referred the project to the high school booster club, headed by Rob Kulik, which footed the $565 bill to have the banners made by AdEmbroidery of East Granby.
The banners, which were hung earlier this week, have received rave reviews.
“It was long overdue,” Bavaro said. “It’s just another way that the booster club supports the school.”
Bavaro noted that the banners didn’t just reflect the other high schools that East Granby High competes against in athletic events. Specifically, Bavaro said that the NCCC schools also compete against one another in the arts and musical competitions as well.
“It extends beyond athletics,” she said.
