Granby Budget Fails At The Polls

The budget vote was held Monday at Town Hall after weeks of workshops and public meetings.

GRANBY, CT — Granby’s proposed budget was voted down at referendum, and town officials have already set the next steps in the process.

According to the town website, the proposed Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget failed on Monday, April 20, by a vote of 1,539 to 1,166. The town said a new public hearing on the revised budget is scheduled for Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at Granby Memorial High School.

The next budget vote is scheduled for Monday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the Granby Town Hall Meeting Room, according to the town. Officials also said residents who vote by absentee ballot should follow the same process they have used in the past, with more information available through the Town Clerk’s webpage.

Before the referendum, Granby had said the budget required a majority of “yes” votes to pass and that the process would repeat until a spending plan was approved. The town had also posted the FY2026-27 budget book and departmental workshop presentations online ahead of the vote.

A separate update posted Monday night by the Granby Democratic Town Committee also said the bipartisan budget had failed and that residents should expect significant cuts in the next version, but the town website now provides the official vote total and the dates for the new hearing and referendum.
