On Friday, March 22nd, the Granby Education Foundation continued its annual tradition this year by hosting the 10th Gran-Bee trivia tournament at Granby High School.
State Rep. Bill Simanski (R-62nd) was invited to join Granby Fire Chief Wayne Bindas and Vice President of the Granby Chamber of Commerce Jen Burkhart in participating on the judges’ panel for the tournament.
“The Gran-Bee is a great community event that’s held for any even greater cause,” said Rep. Simanski. “The money raised from this event goes to fund projects inside and outside the classroom – and I can’t think of a better way to fundraise for our children’s education than to have students, organizations and businesses from our community compete in this studious Granby tradition. I’d like to thank all of the sponsors and participants that made this night possible, and I thank the Granby Education Foundation for the honor of selecting me to serve on the prestigious judges’ panel.”

This year, 31 teams of three entered the contest – creating a total of 93 participants. During the competition, five teams compete in “swarms” answering a total of 10 questions. The team that answers the most questions correctly moves on to the “final swarm” where winners from all swarms vie for the Gran-bee championship.
All money raised from the event goes directly to fund grants for educational programs in Granby. In the past, GEF grants have funded an imagination platform for a school playground, a variety of after-school programs, and other education programs in the community - including a poetry writing course at the Granby Senior Center.
