Athletes, Officers to Represent Connecticut at Special Olympics World Winter Games in Republic of Korea

Three athletes and two officers from Connecticut will be going to PyeongChang, in the Republic of Korea, to represent Connecticut at the Special Olympics 2013 World Winter Games, January 29 to February 5, 2013. Team Connecticut athletes include Stephen Cuthbert, of Bethany, who will compete in snowshoeing; Tonya Hall, of Bristol, who will compete in cross-country; and Zachary Posner, of Clinton, who will compete in alpine skiing.  The officers include Captain Joe Carlone of Branford and Sergeant Peter Howard of Monroe. Carlone and Howard will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run and Opening Ceremonies that kick off the World Winter Games.

The 2013 Special Olympics World Winter Games will feature world-class competition in alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, snowboarding and speed skating, among other sports. The 2013 Games will be the 10th Special Olympics World Winter Games.  During this international event, Special Olympics athletes and the law enforcement officers from around the world who support them will come together to celebrate inclusion, respect and acceptance for all people on and off the playing field, and to change people’s attitudes and misconceptions about individuals with intellectual disabilities.
