Manchester, CT – Cox Communications announced today that it will launch a network of Cox WiFi hotspots for consumers in Connecticut.
The value-added service allows Cox High Speed Internet customers to access the Internet at home and on-the-go. Subscribers to Cox’s Preferred, Premier, and Ultimate tiers will have free access to Cox WiFi as part of their product bundles.
“Our customers’ needs and behaviors continue to change over time, especially with the explosive growth of smart phones, tablets, and other wireless devices,” Doreen Studley, vice president of marketing, Cox Communications Northeast. “Customers want access to reliable high speed Internet in their homes and on-the-go. Accessing Cox WiFi is simple. When customers are in a hotspot coverage area, they will see the Cox WiFi network location (SSID) in the list of available networks on their wireless device. Customers simply enter their Cox user ID and password to login to Cox WiFi. Once authenticated, they will be able to browse the Internet at more than 700 hotspots in Connecticut.
Once customers connect to CoxWiFi using a device, the same device will automatically connect for the next 30 days without customers having to re-enter their Cox credentials. In addition, customers can attach three devices per user ID and 10 per account at a time, allowing family members to access Cox WiFi as well.
Cox WiFi offers download speeds of up to 15Mbps and upload speeds of 4Mbps. The speeds can vary and are dependent upon the number of smart phones, tablets, or other devices connected to the access point at any given time.
