GRANBY STUDENTS MARCH TO STATE CAPITOL TO VOICE OPINIONS AND MEET WITH LEGISLATORS REGARDING EDUCATION IN CONNECTICUT

 On Wednesday, March 6^th students from Granby High School attended the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education’s (CABE) annual “Day on the Hill” event in which they, along with principals, superintendents, school board members and other students from across the state, convened to voice their opinions and meet with legislators regarding education in Connecticut.

The day began with a briefing of issues at The Bushnell’s Autorino Great Hall, including the governor’s proposed budget and its effect on local schools districts, with CABE and the legislative leadership. Remarks were made by Governor Malloy, Senator Andrea Stillman, Representative Andy Fleishmann and Representative Toni Boucher.

Students, principals, superintendents, school board members and other attendees then walked “to the Hill” to visit one-on-one with their legislators at the State Capitol Building.

Representing Granby Schools were students Jill Edbrooke, Ryan Faulkner, Assistant Principal Kathy Sutton and Board member Cal Heminway.

Other districts represented with students at the event include; Canton, Branford, Killingly, Montville, Plainville, Simsbury, Windsor, Waterbury and Stratford.

The Connecticut Association of Boards of Education serves local and regional school districts in Connecticut and is dedicated to improving the quality of education throughout the state and the nation. CABE's membership includes 145 school districts representing 90 % of the state's public school population. CABE is a leading advocate for public education at the State Capitol and in Washington D. C., and offers many types of support services to local boards of education including the Board Member Academy, a continuing education program for local board of education members.
