Basketball Great Ray Allen Inspires Young Athletes at East Granby High

Ray Allen spoke to 200 campers at East Granby High School Saturday as part of the Ray Allen ProCamp.

Ten-time NBA All-Star and Olympic gold medalist (2000) Ray Allen visited East Granby High School for the Ray Allen ProCamp, according to the UConn blog.

The former UConn athlete shared some of his basketball tips, life lessons and inspiring stories with approximately 200 boys and girls from grades 1 to 12 at The Citi Ray Allen Basketball ProCamp. Campers participated in drills while Allen showed off his expertise in shooting three-pointers. Allen, a 39-year-old free agent, is still deciding on his future as an NBA player. Recently finishing his second season for the Miami Heat, Allen is being asked to rejoin Mike Miller and LeBron James in Cleveland. Retirement is also an option he is considering.

Allen told UConn’s Brian Grindrod, “I can come back because I can, but that does not mean I have to. But if I don’t come back, I have accomplished a lot.”

In addition to being a stellar athlete, Allen also helps to raise money for children with diabetes. His Ray of Hope Foundation recently donated a computer lab to Ponus Ridge Middle School in Norwalk, the seventh his foundation donated to schools. The Ray of Hope Foundation was established by Allen in 1997. The organization assists with sports related programs to enable youth to “hope to realize their full potential.”
