Focus group forming for teen gamers and their parents

A Parent-Youth focus group on teen gaming is now being formed.

The Capitol Area Substance Abuse Council, in response to a growing number of calls from  parents concerned with their children's video game use is asking local communities to host Parent-Youth Focus groups to explore the issue.  Granby is looking for between 6 and 10 teens who are gamers, and a parent to join us one evening to discuss the topic.  We want to learn about what teens consider "normal" gaming behavior and what parents' concerns are regarding gaming.  We want to find out if teens or their parents find any indications of problem gaming in themselves or others they know.  The facts gleaned from these focus groups will direct further investigations that will ultimately serve to give back helpful information to the community.

The focus group will be held in the evening, and will last about an hour and a half.  A light supper will be served, and gift bags will be given to participating teens.  Please call AnneMarie Cox at the Town of Granby Youth Service Bureau to get more information or to register to participate in this focus group.   We need you input! Call (860) 844-5355  or email me at ahcox@granby-ct.gov.
