Chairman Clark Resigns from East Granby School Board

Longtime member of the Board of Education says that he cannot devote the time necessary to the school board in light of professional commitments.

Jeff Clark, the chairman of the East Granby Board of Education, announced that he will resign his post, effective Jan. 8 2012, at the school board’s regular meeting on Monday evening.

Clark said in a prepared statement that he was no longer able to keep up with the position’s demands in light of his professional commitments as an IT consultant.

He served on the school board for 10 years, the last two of which as its chairman.

“I resign after much consideration and with deep regret,” Clark said at the meeting. “I found the time and the energy I need to devote to my career and small business is increasing and will prevent me from being informed and engaged with the Board, the district and other stakeholders to the degree necessary to fulfill my duties.”

Clark said after the meeting that he was proud of the accomplishments that have taken place in the school system while he was a board member, including the Seymour Elementary School expansion, the opening of the Family Resource Center and having East Granby named the No. 1 school district in the Greater Hartford area last year.

Clark’s fellow school board members, for their part, reluctantly accepted his resignation.

“He’s going to be missed,” said school board Vice Chairman Kirby Huget.

The school board did not have a discussion as to who would fill Clark’s position on the board or who would assume the chairperson’s duties after his resignation becomes effective in January.
