East Granby PGA Pro Elected to CT Section Hall of Fame

Vic Svenberg, PGA pro at Copper Hill Golf Club for four decades, one of three chosen for honor this year.

Passion for the game and love of people are what drive Vic Svenberg, who spent almost four decades as Copper Hill Golf Club’s Head PGA Professional. But now he's being honored for his service and contribution to the game of golf.

Svenberg is one the newest inductees recently chosen for the Connecticut Section PGA Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame was initiated to recognize members who have made great contributions to the sport in 2008 and since then, just 21 pros have been inducted.

Svenberg, a life member of the PGA, served as Copper Hill Golf Club’s head pro for over 37 years, from 1961 to 1998, according to a release from the Connecticut Section PGA. His service has included countless hours of volunteering to help people of all kinds learn to enjoy golf and life.

Svenberg specializes in working with golfers with disabilities, leading programs like “Golfers in Motion.” He also works with young golfers, having helped to run and officiate Junior Golf Tour events as one of its competition directors since 2009 and volunteering and instructing young golfers in The First Tee of Connecticut since 2006.

Svenberg has been honored previously as a member of the PGA President’s Council on Growing the Game in 2007 and 2009 and was the 1972 Connecticut PGA Golf Professional of the Year.

According to the release, "Vic Svenberg is a true giver and community leader and the honor is well deserved."

Svenberg told John Torsiello of Foothills Media Group that he cried when he received news of his election into the hall of fame and that he has been touched by having juniors at a Junior Tour event he was officiating come up and congratulate him.
