East Granby Update: School Canceled for Thursday, Some Power Restored

Classes will not be held for fourth consecutive day, though some power in town has been restored.

The East Granby public schools will be closed Thursday as the town continues to deal with the aftermath of the nor'easter that blew through Connecticut last weekend.

First Selectman Jim Hayden said that no decision has been made as to whether classes will be held Friday.

"They are deciding on a day-to-day basis," Hayden said.

There has been some progress made in having power restored, according to Hayden, as some households in the southern part of the town had been reconnected to the grid.

As of 9 p.m. Wednesday evening, 2,226 out of 2,611 CL&P customers - or 85 percent - were still without power.

Hayden said that, unlike officials in West Hartford, Southington and Simsbury, he believes CL&P is doing everything it can to work with the town to bring electricity back to East Granby.

"The CL&P representative has been very cooperative," Hayden said. "They said they were going to have crews here today, and they had crews here today."
