Elections Will be Held in Both Towns

Mass power outages in the area will not stop the democratic process.

Elections will be held in Granby and East Granby on Nov. 8, regardless of the power situation, according to town officials.

Granby Memorial High School will be the town's lone polling place from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 8, with or without power, according to Maureen Wolf, Granby's Republican registrar of voters.

"We have contingencies in place if the high school does not have power," she said.

The high school will be the polling place despite the school district's decision to have classes scheduled on Election Day.

In East Granby, the polling place will be open, according to Carol Carrara, Republican registrar of voters. The only issue is where that polling place will be, Carrara said.

The town's normal polling place, the Senior Center, is currently being used as an emergency shelter, Carrara said. If the Senior Center cannot be used, then the Town Hall will likely be the location for people to vote, Carrara said.

Most residents of both towns have been without power for the better part of seven days as of Friday as a result of a rare late-October snow storm that resulted in felled trees and knocked down power wires.
