GMHS Homecoming, Saturday, October 20th

High school fall sports are perhaps near their peak about the same time the foliage is prime. Teams are deep into their conference schedules and have their sights on post season tournaments. So when Granby High school’s Homecoming Weekend rolls around -- this year on Saturday, October 20th -- team and school spirit will be in full color.

Whether on the soccer or field hockey pitch or on the gridiron, the events that make up Granby’s Homecoming Weekend are the equivalent of playing in a state tournament game. It is the opportunity to play in front of larger audiences, as the games draw family, friends, faculty and students who can’t ordinarily make weekday games. A good number of GMHS alumni can be found on the sidelines as many travel home to attend the weekend events.

This year’s Homecoming promises to deliver the same level of exciting matchups as last year, as boys football takes on cross town rival Avon at Ahrens Park, field hockey hosts top-notch Guilford at GMHS, and boys and girls soccer face conference foe Ellington Saturday evening under the lights at the school. The soccer under the lights event, now in its 8th year, will have the girls kicking off at 6:00 p.m. and the boys at 8:00 p.m. in matches that promise to deliver fast, physical play.
