Irish Dinner Benefit for War Memorial on Granby Green

An Irish Dinner Benefit will be held on March 2, 2013, to honor those who have died in service to this country during the conflicts in the Middle East.  The event will be sponsored by the of Granby Junior Ancient Fyfe and Drum Corps, with proceeds to be used towards the cost of a new memorial on the Granby Town Green which commemorates the fallen soldiers of the "The War on Terror".  The name is commonly used in reference to military campaigns which followed the events of September 11, 2001, and which have spanned Iraq, Afghanistan, and other countries in the Middle East.  The Shannon-Shattuck American Legion Post #182 commissioned the memorial and according to James Hall, post Adjutant, it is intended to also honor soldiers who served all the way back to Operation Desert Storm, which began more than 20 years ago.  "Supporting Veterans is a real part of our Corps mission, and it is our pleasure to pitch in to help the American Legion cover the costs of this important memorial." says Marquis Director Audrey Lampert.  The structure will be formally dedicated during the Memorial Day services of remembrance this May.

The benefit dinner will include shepherd's pie, salad, Irish soda bread, drinks and a dessert buffet.   Tables for eight people will be sold for $100 each and can be purchased by sending a check in to the Marquis of Granby at PO Box 1776, Granby, CT  06035.   You may also pay with a credit card by visiting www.marquisofgranby.org.  Please include contact information so that your purchase can be confirmed prior to that night!  The benefit will be held in Cook Hall at the First Congregational Church of Granby on Route 189 North.  Doors open at 4:45 pm, with the first seating at 5 pm.  If enough tables are sold, a second seating will be added at 7 pm.
