Shingles Vaccine Clinic sponsored by the Farmington Valley VNA

Shingles is caused by the dormant chickenpox virus that lives in the nerve cells. Although the reason for developing shingles is not known, 1 in 3 people will develop shingles when the virus "reactivates." The initial painful, blistering rash can lead to muscle weakness, scarring, skin infections, hearing loss, blindness, or nerve pain that can last for weeks, months, or possibly years.

Immunization against Shingles - the Herpes Zoster Vaccine called Zostavax - is available at the Farmington Valley VNA by physician order, and is recommended for those over the age of 60. Please have your physician fax an order with your name, date of birth, and permission to receive the vaccine to 860.653.1520. We will contact you when the order is received to confirm your participation in our Wednesday, April 10th clinic at 3:00 pm in our Simsbury Office location at 8 Old Mill Lane (10/202 to West Street/309 near Firetown Road).

The cost of the Shingles vaccine is $210; Medicare D is accepted, although there may be a deductible.
