Fedenyuk First in Aptly Named 'Granby's Got Talent'

Granby Memorial High sophomore's rendition of Rondo Capriccioso by Felix Mendelssohn captures the $300 first-place prize.

The third time was the charm for sophomore  Anna Fedenyuk, who took home the $300 prize for first-place in the third-annual “Granby’s Got Talent” competition at the high school auditorium on Sunday afternoon.

Fedenyuk, who won the talent show with her piano performance of Rondo Capriccioso by Felix Mendelssohn, came in second place in the competition for two consecutive years before finally winning this year.

And it turned out that Fedenyuk wasn’t the only reason why “Granby’s Got Talent” was aptly named.

Indeed, the 18 Granby residents comprising 12 acts who performed in the fundraiser for the high school Drama Club/The Bear Paw Players were all impressive.

This year’s show featured six vocals, a rock band, a guitar solo, three dance routines and Fedenyuk’s piano performance by contestants ranging in ages between eight and 21.

“I’m always overwhelmed at how talented the young people are in Granby,” said Kathleen Sutton, the high school’s vice principal and one of the event’s two judges. “It’s amazing.”

The votes of Sutton and the second judge, Dr. Anna Forlenza-Bailey, principal of , accounted for 50 percent of the result, with the other 50 percent came from the tally from the audience.

The Toccata Trio (Lauren Hartman, Marile Marzo and CC Milbrandt) placed second and took home $200 for its acrobatic dance performance.

Precocious 8-year-old Kylie Williams, a student at Wells Road Intermediate School, was third and received $100 for her tap dance routine.

“This is my first year doing a solo dance,” Williams said after her performance. “I was nervous before, but I wasn’t nervous when I was on the stage.”
