Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Gondoliers!"
A hilarious and tuneful comic opera will be presented in Deep River on Oct. 4 and 5 by the Connecticut Gilbert and Sullivan Society.

The Gondoliers, or The King of Barataria, a tuneful and witty Gilbert and Sullivan comic operetta, will be presented on Oct. 4 and 5 with costumes, scenery and a full orchestra. As in last years’ production of Yeoman of the Guard it is conveniently on the modern stage of Valley Regional High School, 256 Kelsey Hill Road, Deep River, at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday and another 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday.
With scenes on the colorful Venetian waterfront and the sumptuous court of Barataria, the plot revolves around the efforts to discover which of two gondoliers is the king of Barataria who was abducted at birth. Comic complications abound when the two, appointed jointly until the true king is known, attempt to govern on strictly republican principles.
Gondoliers is directed by Bob Cumming of East Haddam, with musical direction by Dr. John Dreslin of Stonington. Ticket information may be found on the CG&SS website, ctgands.org, or by calling 1-800-866-1606.
