Global Summer Learning Opportunities in Granby

Students entering grades 3 through 9 may learn about Chinese Language, Chinese Culture and Global Studies in program that is now in its second year.

The following is a press release from Granby Public Schools

Granby Public Schools, in collaboration with the Granby Education Foundation, is presenting for the second year a summer global learning opportunity for children entering grades 3 through 9 in the fall of 2012 who are interested in learning about Chinese Language, Chinese Culture, and Global Studies.

The Global Summer Learning Academy will take place for 10 days beginning June 18 and ending June 29.

The sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Wells Road Intermediate School. Students will again rotate daily through three courses: Chinese Language, Chinese Culture, and Global Studies. New and previous students are welcome as learning topics will be expanded from last summer.

The Chinese Language course will expose students to conversational skills in Chinese and they will be offered a brief introduction to reading and writing the language.

The Chinese Culture course will immerse students in Chinese culture through technology, arts and crafts, Chinese martial arts, and other experiences.
In the Global Studies class, students will use inquiry, research, and debate to investigate environmental and social issues related to China and the United States.
