GMHS Swimming and Diving Tops Suffield
Bears win their first meet of the season to improve to 1-3.

After several close calls, the swimming and diving team won its first meet of the year, defeating Suffield High 97-79 on Tuesday evening.
The team of John Budlong and the brothers Bowman (Connor, Tucker and Hunter), of Canton High, kicked off the meet in style with a victory in the 200 medley relay in 1:58.09.
Connor Bowman also won the 200 individual medley (2:22.55) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.25), while Budlong won the 50 free (24.47) and 100 free (54.23).
Suffield High’s Kyle Eheander won the 200 free (1:50.37) and 100 butterfly (57.95), while Marc Murphy won the diving competition (172.10) and Greg Cristina placed first in the 500 free (5:49) and 100 backstroke (1:09.55).
Suffield’s 200 free relay (Noah Roy, Paul Trzanski, Craig Kost and Eheander) and 400 free relay (Eheander, Will Morris, Ryan Englander and Cristina) teams also placed first.
Other noteworthy performances for Granby Memorial included Tucker Bowman’s second-place finishes in the 200 free (2:03.27) and 100 fly (1:03.15), Hunter Bowman’s second-place finish in the 500 free (6:14.03), Jamie Moffa’s third-place finish in the 500 free (6:26.46) and Erin Walsh’s second-place performance in the diving competition (158.70).
It was a particularly sweet victory for the Bears (1-3), who dropped heartbreaking meets to Haddam-Killingworth and Windsor.
Against Windsor, several of Granby Memorial’s swimmers became ill on the pool deck, preventing some top performers from entering the meet.
