Granby Awarded State Grant for Holcomb Farm Improvements

Funds will go toward a new parking lot and rehabilitating existing buildings.

Gov. Dannel Malloy announced today that a $500,000 state grant for Holcomb farm is among this year’s first round of Small Town Economic Assistance Program grants.

The grant will be used to construct a parking lot and rehabilitate buildings at Holcomb Farm, which is owned by the town of Granby. The parking lot will have both porous and standard asphalt in order to be environmentally friendly, according to a press release from the governor’s office. Fixing up the farm’s buildings will help the town move forward with plans to market the farm as a tourist destination and as a setting for weddings and other gatherings.

“Since assuming responsibility for the operation and maintenance of Holcomb Farm in 2012, the Town of Granby has worked diligently to develop a plan to enhance this agricultural treasure and provide greater access,” Granby First Selectman John E. Adams said.  “The STEAP grant will enable the town to improve parking areas and access to the facilities using environmentally sensitive construction practices.”

State Senator John A. Kissel (R-Enfield) said the funding will bolster the farm, which is already a well-known Connecticut destination.

“They have taken an active role in providing learning experiences to children and adults throughout the state as well as continuing to operate as a working farm.  With rolling hills and a rich agricultural heritage, this area of Connecticut is truly God’s country.  We appreciate this substantial investment in this area gem,” he said.
