Granby Memorial 2011 Field Hockey Team Reunites for Championship Celebration
State Class S title winners gathered at ABC Pizza Thursday to receive championship jackets.

How high school championship jackets have changed.
The 24 members of the 2011 field hockey team gathered as a group for one final meeting at  on Wednesday to receive their jackets for winning the state Class S championship in November.
The stitching of “2011” on the back to join the years 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2010 - the years the Bears have won the title in the last decade - wasn’t the only addition to the jackets.
There are also two small pockets to store cell phones.
The jackets may reflect modern times, but the venue at which the celebration was held remained firmly, and blissfully, entrenched in Granby’s past. ABC, the first stand-alone pizzeria in town that opened in the early 1970s, hosted the party gratis.
Granby Memorial High field hockey head coach Sandy Wickman Mason thanked the owners of ABC for hosting the party; the Board of Education for providing the funds for the jackets; and Stitches by Me in Granby for its work on the lettering.
“It think they’re great,” Wickman Mason said of the jackets. “They’re awesome.”
It’s been quite an eventful week for the field hockey team, which saw Wickman Mason named the by the Connecticut Sportswriters’ Alliance over the weekend and Regional All-American midfielder Haley Makuch sign a national letter of intent to attend the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
