Granby Obituary: Richard Stevens, 58

Richard V. Stevens passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Cancer may have won the fight, but he did it his way with courage and selflessness.

Rick was born on June 11, 1959 and grew up in Bloomfield. He was married to his true partner and best friend, Pamela (Sterling) Stevens and raised four beautiful, loving children - Allyson and Adam Outlaw and Jared and Jenna Stevens; they were and will always be his pride and joy.

In addition to his family he is survived by his mother, Mary Dayton Stevens; a sister, Patricia Stevens and her husband, Lynn Kinner; and the Sterling family herd.

In his youth, he was a long-time volunteer with the Blue Hills Fire and Rescue, both as a firefighter and EMT. Rick was a self-made man and with his vision and drive built two successful businesses: Stevens Electrical Company in Simsbury and Horse Central Stables in Granby.

Rick lived a full life filled with adventure. He had a passion for teaching all things and loved to share his horse whispering skills with his students and took justifiable great pride in showing his horses all over the country. And, in case you are wondering, if Rick did not know how to do something he would always tell you to "think out of the box" or "look it up on YouTube.”

Rick enjoyed nature, animals, hiking, camping, and music -"bang that ting." He collected friends everywhere he went and has many “brothas from anotha motha.” His family will be forever grateful for the support and friendship they gave him during these past months. Special thanks to John, Joe, Kevin, and Pastors Matt and Dennis. His faith showed him the way home and he is blazing the trail for those who will come in their own time. Until we meet again his memories will live in our hearts.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on Sunday, January 14, at 2 p.m., followed by a reception and a time of sharing stories at the Pilgrim Covenant Church, 605 Salmon Brook St., Granby, CT. All are welcome.
