GRANBY RESIDENTS JOIN CONNECTICUT’S FIGHT AGAINST BREAST CANCER

April 15, 2013 – The Connecticut Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is pleased to announce that Kaitlyn and Christine Marks have been named Town Ambassadors of Granby for the 20th Annual Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure®, to be held on Saturday, June 1 at Hartford’s Bushnell Park. The two sisters volunteered to be Town Ambassadors in honor of their Aunt, Donna Mannix, who lost her battle with the disease and to celebrate their mother, Cindy Marks. Both women want to help the community on a local level, stating that “Connecticut has one of the highest breast cancer rates in the country which makes it much more important to support the cause right here in our own state.” Connecticut has the second highest incidence of breast cancer in the United States, and it is estimated that more than 3,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the state this year. Thousands of Connecticut residents will come together on June 1st to raise funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrate breast cancer survivors and honor those who have lost their battle with the disease. For each of the past three years, Komen Connecticut has granted over $1 Million to local organizations providing lifesaving services, including the Hartford Hospital Mobile Mammography program, a Spanish-speaking support group at Hartford’s Hispanic Health Council and navigation services at Saint Francis Hospital, among others. Over the past 20 years, Komen Connecticut has invested over $23 Million in breast cancer research and local programs, making it the largest non-government funder of breast cancer services in the state. It is not too late to get involved in supporting the Race for the Cure! For additional information and to register or donate, visit www.KomenCT.org or call 860-321-7806.
