On Saturday, November 1st, the Granby Rovers U13 Girls Soccer Team defeated Milford 3 – 1 to win the U13 Connecticut Cup hosted by the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association. The annual fall tournament is a season long event involving single elimination games between travel soccer teams from throughout the State of Connecticut. Granby defeated teams from the towns of Enfield, Darien, Rocky Hill, Orange, Stafford Springs and Milford. Over the course of the tournament, the team allowed only three goals and scored twenty-one goals. By winning the Connecticut Cup, the girls capped off the season with a record of 22 – 0. In doing so, the girls won their league within the CJSA North Central District. During the season, the girls also competed in the 23rd Annual Kevin Barmak Labor Day Soccer Tournament and the Paul R. Cody Columbus Day Soccer Tournament hosted by the Enfield and Windsor Soccer Clubs, respectively. The girls won both of these tournaments. Over the course of the season, a strong defense combined with a coordinated passing attack resulted in the team allowing only seven goals and scoring eighty-five goals. This team has been playing together since the U9 season five years ago and demonstrates the importance of teamwork and good sportsmanship which is the mission of the Granby Rovers Soccer Club. They will next head to Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania where they will compete in the 2015 United States Youth Soccer Region 1 (East) President’s Cup.
