Groundbreaking Ceremony for Elementary School Project Set for Oct. 25

Ceremony to take place at R.D. Seymour School next week at 10 a.m.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an 11,000-square-foot addition to East Granby's will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25, according to First Selectmen Jim Hayden.

Members of the public are invited to the ceremony to be held at Seymour School, located at 185 Hartford Avenue in East Granby. 

The addition and complete renovation "as new" of Seymour, which includes the building of four new classrooms, is anticipated to be completed in early 2013.

The addition and renovation at Seymour plus some capital projects at are part of an $11.8 million elementary school upgrade plan.

Last week, the elementary school building committee awarded $11.1 million worth of bids to 13 subcontractors slated to work on the project.

The extra $700,000 that came in under bid will be used for project alternates, including window replacement at both Seymour and Allgrove, electrical and technology upgrades, toilet room renovations and the replacement of the playscape at Seymour.
