Hockey Co-op Captures Much-Needed Victory

The Fermi-Enfield-East Granby-Stafford ice hockey team scored a major win over Farmington Valley Wednesday afternoon.

In the midst of a disappointing season, the Fermi-Enfield-East Granby-Stafford ice hockey team received a timely shot in the arm Wednesday afternoon.

Matt Votta scored three goals and goaltender Sam Roy turned away 33 shots, sparking the Falcons to a 5-3 victory over the Farmington Valley co-op (Farmington, Avon, Windsor and Lewis Mills) at the Enfield Twin Rinks.

Votta netted his first goal late in the second period, breaking a 1-1 tie, then added two more goals in the third period to establish a 4-1 Falcon lead.

Just 16 seconds after Votta completed his hat trick, Farmington Valley scored to make it 4-2, then with their goaltender pulled in favor of a sixth attacker, scored with 58 seconds remaining to creep within one.

Thomas Vose cemented the Falcon victory with an empty-net goal in the waning seconds.

Cam Gaylor also scored for the Falcons, who avenged an early-season 6-1 loss at the hands of the Generals.

Vose had two assists, while Votta, Gaylor and Jared Cournoyer each had one.

The top 16 teams in Division II advance to state tournament play; with the win, the Falcons improved to 18th position.

They return to the ice Friday, traveling to Bolton to take on BCR at 8:10 p.m.
