'Honey, You Can Have the Vampire Book or the Poster...'
East Granby Public Library Scholastic Book Fair runs through Dec. 3.

You know you are at a children’s book fair in the year 2011 when a parent says to her child, “Honey, you can have either the poster or the vampire book, and I’d rather you had the vampire book.”
So it went on Tuesday morning at the East Granby Public Library, which is hosting a scholastic book fair for grades K through 8, the profits of which will go to the children’s library.
“It seems to be going pretty good,” said Betty Waterman, who has been the book fair’s chairman for 12 of its 14 years in existence.
Waterman said that about $3,000 worth of books tend to be sold during the week-long event, which runs this year through Saturday, Dec. 3.
In addition to books on sale, there is a giving tree which has the age and gender of a child served by social services for people to purchase books for the holidays.
“I think it’s great,” said Eugenia Drake, the author of the quote about her daughter getting a vampire book. “I like how it supports the library and books make great Christmas presents, and I’m all for the giving tree, because it’s another way to bring people together.”
The book fair will be held Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
