Local Grapplers Fare Well at High School Wrestling Championships

A Granby Memorial High School athlete took first place in his weight class at the Class S meet at Plainville High School.

A number of area high school wrestlers turned in impressive performances at the class championship meets this past weekend.

The biggest bang for northern Connecticut grapplers came in the Class S meet at Plainville High School, where area athletes accounted for three first-place finishes. Cooper Fleming of Granby Memorial captured the 138 lb. division, Jacob Berry Parker of Somers won the 160 lb. title, and Jackson Rheault of Somers was victorious at 195 lbs.

Fleming won the title by pinning Samuel Kury of Montville at 1:41 in the championship match.

Three area schools placed in the top 10 in team competition. Simsbury was sixth in Class LL, while Somers finished seventh and Granby Memorial eighth in Class S.
